MAKING A DIFFERENCE WITH YOUR DONATION

Supporters and Donors of the Conservancy have helped us reach milestones in wetlands conservation.

There was a time in our recent history when wetlands were considered places for coastal development. The incredible ecosystem services were simply unknown—how wetlands buffer storm surges, help clean polluted waters, and provide nurseries for many fishes and invertebrates, just to list a few. And like a hostel, wetlands offer places of refuge for native wildlife and migratory birds unrestricted by international borders.

Much like disappearing rain forests and coral reefs, wetlands are one of the most endangered habitats in the world. In Southern California, more than 90% of wetlands have been lost to population pressures. That’s why San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve is so special, and one of San Diego’s largest protected coastal estuaries.

Your support of San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy ensures that the reserve and its watershed will be protected and enhanced in perpetuity, along with our naturalist-guided hikes for K-12 schools and the public.

San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy protects and restores the resources of San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve, its watershed, and related ecosystems for the benefit of current and future generations.

Last year, more than 3,000 school children and weekend visitors were led on naturalist-guided walks in the reserve. Your support of environmental education and wetlands conservation is vital to maintaining Conservancy programs.
