Why donate?Preserve & protect the San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve![]() Great Blue Heron (Photo: Herbert Knufken) Thirty years ago, the natural beauty of the San Elijo Lagoon was marred by abandoned cars, dumped trash and poorly treated sewage. Highway construction had restricted the mouth of the lagoon, converting the tidal basin into a rancid, bug infested swamp. Plans were being made to drain the lagoon in order to build a housing development.
San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy is a public-spirited non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, protecting and enhancing the San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve and its watershed. Formed in 1987 by concerned citizens, it continues to be governed by a volunteer board of directors. All contributions to SELC are tax-deductible to the full extent provided by law under its 501(c)(3) tax status, ID #33-0358660. It is the policy of the conservancy not to sell, trade or distribute our membership lists to other organizations or individuals. |
