WINGS OVER WETLANDS | Sunday, January 22, 2017

San Elijo Lagoon hosts migrating visitors that wade, hover, hunt, and rest here from their long journeys. Birds fly from as far as Canada and Chile along the Pacific flyway. Now is the best time for our family festival that's all about the birds!

Celebrate the arrival of our feathered friends during the winter bird migration at San Elijo Lagoon. Kids can meet live raptors brought by Living Coast Discovery Institute. Face painting, and interactive crafts and exhibits reveal the diversity of talons, beaks, wingspans and feathers. The San Pasqual High School Ecology Club will present a play about Dr. Seuss’ Lorax. Participants will speak for the trees and hang a conservation pledge on the Lorax’s tree. San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy naturalists will have spotting scopes for use along the salt marsh loop trail, with excellent birding views. It’s a festival for families to feel inspired about bird migrations and how to recognize common birds. Free. All ages.
