Tell us your story by sharing class artwork, photography, video, and essays of your field trip.

Kids' Corner captures the essence of our K-12 naturalist-guided field trips. In these pages, we will share with you how our youngest visitors to the reserve capture magical moments of discovery using crayons, pencils, even class video projects.

4th grade class from Central Elementary submitted artwork after a recent field trip in the lagoon. Not only did these inspired students sketch favorite memories, their art included insights from what they learned and most adored. Enjoy!

 From Abby:

"...I learned the Fidler Crab male digs a hole and waves its claw in the hole to show the ladys it to see if they will lay eggs in there. I'm glad I can come and I hope I can come again."

 From Melissa:

"...I loved this trip so much. My favorite part was when we saw the blue heron."

From Lynette:

"...I learned about careing about the lagoon is important because there is lots of habitats and species here."

 From Zack:

"Thank you for showing us all those wonderful things... I liked the beautiful blue harine [heron]. It has a very wonderful color. That's my favorite color."

From Bibi:

"I also liked learning about the red berries that the birds eat in spring..."

From Erik:

"Thank you for teaching me more things like the mullet fish, the great Blue Heron, the Great Egret, decomposers and a lot of things about San Elijo Lagoon."

Quotes excerpted from field trip experiences

“The most interesting thing was everything–even yourself”

“P.S. There is only one problem about San Elijo Lagoon, I want to go back.”

“Thank you for inviting us to see plants. It was very exciting I never liked hiking until now. I learned so much. We saw crabs, plants, birds, and snails. It was the best field trip I’ve ever been on. It was my first time at the San Elijo Lagoon…” your friend, Eddie.

“I had a better time than anyone in the entire class. It was so awesome and I want to come again and again. You guys taught me so much that my brain is hurting,” your friend, Liam

We'd like to hear from your class! If you are planning post-field trip essays, artwork, or other inspired storytelling. Please feel free to share them with the Conservancy, and inspire other students with your work published in Kids Corner. We rotate postings regularly.
