Winter Solstice Lagoon Discovery Tour

JOIN A TOUR OF NATURAL REFLECTIONS

Bufflehead, by Gary Glessow

You’re in a birding hotspot! Look and listen for birds—they’re all around us.The reserve is home to more than 300 species of year-round residents, winter visitors, summer breeders, and migrants passing through to rest and refuel. San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve is one of San Diego's more diverse coastal wetlands. There are an exceptional variety of plants and animals that thrive here.

Wintertime is one of the best times to observe birds in action at the lagoon. In these shortest days, we’ll look for birds that may be fishing, flying, resting, and eating. Some live here, others are visiting during winter migration. Look for sightings of waterfowlshorebirds, and a diversity of species.
