Overview:

Unlike the cheeks of hamsters and squirrels, a Pocket Gopher's cheeks are outside of their mouths and lined with fur. They serve as all-purpose carry bags. The Valley Pocket Gopher might use its cheeks to transport nesting materials underground for later eating. As they tunnel, Pocket Gophers act like miniature plows, turning over and loosening the soil.
