Overview:
On any visit to the reserve, you're likely to see the Western fence lizard running along a trail or sunning itself on rocks, posts, and yes, fences. Males have electric blue patches on their throats and bellies, which they flash as a warning to rival males and as an invitation to passing females. From above, those patches are invisible; when these lizards sit very still, they virtually disappear among the rocks and sand. |
