FLY FREELY, BUTTERFLIES!

Our guest expert, Brian Banker representing the Butterfly Farms, will present a show and tell about important butterflies, with a special release of their newly emerged Monarchs. We’ll tour the trails for sightings of flittering and fanciful pollinators in San Elijo Lagoon. We will look for: Monarchs, Lorquin's Admiral, Painted Ladies, Buckeyes, Hermes Coppers, Swallowtails, Mourning Cloaks, Skippers, Blues and Sulphurs.

Butterfly Farms is an Encinitas-based nonprofit dedicated to education, conservation and research of important pollinators. Seeing the plight of the Monarch, nursery owners Tom Merriman and Patrick Flanagan co-founded Butterfly Farms in 2013.

Brian Banker is a lepidoptera (butterfly and moth) rearing expert and interpretive consultant. He has led butterfly tours and habitat enhancement and lepidoptera nurturing programs throughout the Southwestern United States.
